The Phobing Disease Strikes Cuba!

While walking many kilometers in Cuba I saw so many people sitting on the curb outside a internet provider location glued to there phone.  I would see couples sharing ear buds to hear the internet conversation with loved ones.  I would see these people in the same spot for more than two hours.  It was sad. It is a stark contrast to what I saw only two years ago, people glued to books.  People still read books but not as many as I saw the first visit over 4 years ago.

Now everyone is Phobing.  (Phobing–  The inability to put the electronic device down (smartphone, tablet, I-pod,etc.). Some may be seen meandering in multiple lanes of traffic, entire families sitting in a restaurant looking at individual devices, persons stepping in front of moving trains, and the like.) The disease is spreading like wild fire.  I really do believe people are and can be addicted to the internet.  I hope the folks in Cuba are not trying to catch up on the last 50 years of time via the internet.

During my 8 days away in Cuba I was completely disconnected.  My wife wanted to let everyone at home know we were okay, so I had to let her get her piece of mind.

It was a calming effect to not be grabbing for my phone. It allowed me to see more and use my eyes.  I put the phone in the suitcase charged and turned it on the day after we returned, even though I didn’t want to.

It was amazing to walk around and see others infected with the disease while I walked around and took in the sights, the smells, felt the sunshine and contemplated the next image.

I suggest trying to disconnect from your phone before you are diagnosed with Phobing Disease.  If you need help, call me, I will return the call at specific times during the day.  PS. the wife calls I will answer immediately.
